Book Review - Love Letters To The Dead

This book made my heart ache in all the best possible ways. Haunting, moving and well written. I felt connected to the teenage protagonist and to those to whom she wrote. As I teenager, I too had been fascinated by people who had died too young, those who had shone brightly, comets soaring through the air, only to burn themselves up and be extinguished too soon. These are those she writes to, the Kurt Cobains, River Phoenixs and Judy Garlands of this world. Through her connection to them, she unpacks her own emotions after the death of her sister, and in doing so connects to the loss within us all. Ava Dellaira has perfected the craft of drip feeding information throughout the story, revealing just enough to keep the reader wanting more, as the story unfolds. Her use of language and imagery is beautiful. I highly recommend for those who enjoy young adult books, or anyone who would like to give the genre a try. Trigger warning it does deal with sexual abuse.
